Research and Data Analysis
We conducted interviews with experienced and new users of TripAdvisor. The interview script was then analyzed to create a design direction

Ideation and Evaluation test
After making the affinity diagram and deciding on a design direction, creating personas, Balasmiq was used to create initial ideations for the redesign. We then made low-fidelity paper prototypes of the webpage and conducted a usability test using the think-aloud process and Nielsen's 10 heuristics for user interface design.

Low Fidelity Prototypes for Evaluation
Evaluation Task:
“Suppose you decided to go to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, to travel alone. You expect to stay there for a couple of days, departing on 05/20/14 and returning on 05/25/14. Your objective is to book a hotel to stay at during this period. You want the travel type as business and a price range of $120 - $320 per night. Also, you want the hotel class to be at least 3 stars. You want this hotel to be equipped with free Internet, restaurants, and a room where pets are allowed. Your Hotel is in the vicinity of Lagoa. The hotel brand should be either Mariott or
Sheraton. Sort the result by availability. After watching pictures and reviews of the hotel, make your final booking decision.”

Final Design

Original Design : Homepage

Final Design: A background picture and a recent review that changes with the location searched.

Original Design: Search Results

Final Design: Clean page with focus on the search results. Option for users to take a quick look at pictures of each option. Realtime reviews.

Original Design: Filter

Final Design: Reduces the number of filtering options. Filter grouping is used instead for personas. Filters are not covering information, and users see what is selected in real time.
